eToro alternatives for copy and social trading: Alpha vs eToro
Looking at eToro alternatives? Compare Alpha and eToro on copy and social trading, custody, markets and fees, side by side. Not investment advice.
Short answer: Alpha (tradealpha.app) is a social trading app for global markets. It takes you from the timeline to a trade in seconds. When a trader you follow opens a position in the Alpha Trader Feed, tap it: Copy opens the same trade, Counter-trade takes the other side. You go long or short on perpetual futures on stocks, commodities, indices, forex and crypto, 24/7. eToro is a multi-asset investment platform whose CopyTrader feature automatically replicates another investor's trades in your portfolio, in real time and in proportion to the amount you allocate. Which suits you depends on whether you want hands-off portfolio copying or to act on individual trades as you see them.

How copying works on each
Alpha. On Alpha, copying is part of trading the moment. A trader you follow opens a position. You see it. You trade it. You don't hand over a portfolio:
- See a trade in the Alpha Trader Feed, or open a trader's profile. Profiles show historical performance.
- Tap the trade.
- Tap Copy to open the same position, with the trader's asset, direction and leverage already filled in, and enter how much to put in (for example, $5). Or tap Counter to open the opposite direction: long becomes short, short becomes long.
Nothing is copied automatically, and you don't hand a trader a share of your account. You decide on each trade, and each one is your own position. A copied position doesn't close when the trader closes theirs; you manage your own exit.
eToro. On eToro's CopyTrader you find an investor (only investors in eToro's Pro Investor Program, called Popular Investors on the CopyTrader page, can be copied), choose how much to allocate and tap Copy. A new copy matches the investor's current portfolio allocation, and from then on it mirrors their future actions, including new trades, closes and changes to Stop Loss and Take Profit. eToro says copied trades typically execute in under a second. You can stop or pause a copy, add or remove funds, and close a single copied trade. Pausing stops new trades from opening, but open copied trades still follow the trader's closes. Every copy has a Copy Stop-Loss that closes all of its positions if the copy's value falls to your set level. Investors in eToro's Pro Investor Program can earn monthly payments from eToro based on the users copying them.
The difference in one line: eToro's CopyTrader mirrors a trader's portfolio for you; on Alpha you act on the individual trades you see in the Alpha Trader Feed, copying or countering them the moment they happen.
Seeing what other traders are doing
- Alpha is built to trade the timeline. The Alpha Trader Feed shows what the traders you follow are trading in real time: who is long, who is short, who is adding as a story unfolds. Public profiles show open positions and performance, including Total PnL, best trade, volume, average hold period and number of trades.
- eToro shows investor profiles with a track record and a community feed where investors share and discuss strategies.
What you're actually trading on Alpha
You trade perpetual futures: contracts that track the price of a stock, commodity, index, currency pair or crypto. You can go long or short at any time, including after hours, nights and weekends. Because you're trading a contract that tracks the price rather than the stock itself, markets aren't tied to exchange hours. You don't own the underlying asset, so there are no dividends or voting rights.
Custody on Alpha
Alpha is self-custodial: you hold your keys.
Is Alpha a good eToro alternative?
- Consider eToro if you want hands-off copying, where an investor's trades are replicated in your portfolio automatically.
- Consider Alpha if you want to trade the moment. See a headline, an earnings print or a trader's new position, and trade it in seconds: copy or counter the individual trades you choose, on stocks, commodities, indices, forex and crypto, 24/7, while holding your own keys.
Either way, check the fees, understand what you are actually trading, and size every trade as if it could lose.
FAQ
Is Alpha an eToro alternative for copy trading?
Yes, and it works differently. Alpha is a social trading app for global markets that takes you from the timeline to a trade in seconds. When a trader you follow opens a position in the Alpha Trader Feed, you can copy it or counter-trade it. You pick trades one at a time instead of mirroring a portfolio, and Alpha is self-custodial.
Does Alpha copy a trader's whole portfolio automatically?
No. On Alpha you open a trader's profile, tap one of their trades, and choose Copy or Counter-trade. Each copy is one trade you chose, and you choose the amount. A copied position doesn't close when the trader closes theirs; you manage your own exit.
What is Counter-trading on Alpha?
On any trader's trade you can tap Counter-trade instead of Copy to open the opposite direction of that trade: if the trader is long, you go short, and if they're short, you go long. It is a real position with real risk: a trader being wrong doesn't make the opposite trade right.
How much do I need to copy a trader on eToro?
eToro says the minimum to copy a trader is $200, and each copied position must be at least $1. On Alpha you choose the amount for each trade you copy.
What happens on eToro when the trader I copy closes a trade?
eToro says your copy mirrors the copied trader's future actions, including trade closures and changes to Stop Loss and Take Profit, so your copied position closes when theirs does. You can also close a specific copied trade yourself. On Alpha, a copied position stays open until you close it.
Can I see other traders' positions on Alpha?
Yes. Public profiles and the Alpha Trader Feed show what traders are long or short, and their performance.
Do I own the shares I trade on Alpha?
No. You trade contracts that track the price (perpetual futures). That's also why every market on Alpha, stocks included, can be traded 24/7, including after hours.
Does copying a good trader guarantee profits?
No. Copying a trade copies a position, not a result. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
